The capital of Andalucia, Seville, boasts a rich history with a plethora of activities that ranges from flamenco dancing to bull fights in the arena. But if you fancy a strategic test of the golfing kind, head over to José Maria Olazábal’s Real Sevilla. Widely recognized as one of Europe’s premier golf courses, its balanced layout playing host to major worldwide events including the World Cup in 2004, Andalusia Open in 2009, Spanish Open in 2008, 2010 and 2012.
Sevilla is a testing layout, featuring almost 90 bunkers and 9 lakes spread over three hectares. If you can get close to the pins on these smallish greens then you might card a decent score. The degree of difficulty ramps up with each hole, reaching a crescendo on the 17th with a nerve jangling carry over the water before a spectacular grandstand finishing hole. This is all about a sharp short game but naturally you’ll need to find the fairways in order to give yourself a chance with your approach shots.
