It requires a deal of commitment to reach the southern tip of the Mull of Kintyre to seek out the wonderful links of the Machrihanish Golf Club, but it is a journey that will never disappoint. Back in 1879, Old Tom Morris recognized the potential for great golf here in this rugged, romantic corner of Scotland, saying: “The Almichty Maun hae had gowf in his e’e when he made this place.” His work has comfortably stood the test of time ever since.
The arresting views across to the islands of Islay, Jura and Gigha provide a delightful backdrop to relish the ups and downs of the fairways, the majesty of the dunes, tussle with the firm Machrihanish turf underfoot, and wheeling seabirds providing the musical sound track. Apart from the 1st, noteable holes include par-4 5th, with its fairway like an elephant's graveyard, the 10th, a clever dogleg par five and the 15th, a "one shotter" with real difficulty if the elusive green is missed from the tee.
